(Wendy Cabell, January 16, 2021, feast day of Saint Priscilla of Rome, above.)
In Hand
A babe's bones, a bird's shell, snap so easily. Need
to hold with care the flower's stem. Yet Word
remains, enduring rock your Grace. As a hand held
imprints itself on cells and marrow. As routines
pulse their measured breath even now.
Breathing life into
the broken babe,
egg,
and seed
and bloom
snug in hand.
