Mother-Speak (WC)

(Wendy Cabell, originally January 20, 2022, feast day of Our Lady of the Miracle, Our Lady of the Tables, and Blessed Ursula Haider. In 2025, this same date is also Theophany/last day of Christmas season (Orthodox, old calendar). Image from here.)

On my Mother's passing January 20, 2025, I looked back at poems written on that same date in other years, found 2. Here's one, posted now in her memory:

Mother-Speak

(for Our Lady of the Miracle's feast day, and in memory of my Mother Jackie, on the day of her passing, 2025)

how one forgets the pain arms cradling life all aftermath and ache in slanted hue each day after busy seeking such pastel -- now that it is you know just where you're to

*From prompt: Freewrite as inspired by etymology/concept of birth and related words (I was drawn to Old Welsh beryt "to flow"). From Lisa Freedman's BreatheReadWrite, January 20, 2022.

(note: Originally the end line in above poem was "just where you're from"; Upon revisiting I changed "from" into "to" in honor of my Mother's passing)
